Kain Workwear
Kain Workwear is cloth for work uniforms, sold by the metre. This cloth is available in two classes with a firm boundary between their uses. The normal class is intended for work where the hazard is mechanical, and the FR class for work where the hazard is fire, electric arc or molten metal. The normal class does not resist flame. The normal class must never be used in place of the FR class. We draw up the fabric specification from the type of hazard at your site, and we need that information from the outset. We serve requirements for finished garments through our Garment line.

We settle the article on this line together with your specification, and prepare a sample to that specification.
On standards
We put the two fabric classes together to answer the standards a workwear buyer normally names: NFPA 2112, NFPA 70E, ISO 11612, EN ISO 11611, ASTM F1506 and EN 1149. Those standards are the ones you write on a purchase order. We do not hold certificates for them. We need to know which standard applies to your order from the outset, and we confirm the testing and its paperwork per order, before production runs. We provide per-article weight, construction and composition with the quotation.
Fabric classes
Normal duty
Does not resist flame
This class covers tetoron and rayon 65/35 at 220gsm, and 100% cotton at 250 to 300gsm, in a plain or twill weave. TR fabric is affordable, does not crease easily and dries quickly. Cotton breathes and takes abrasion, and the 300gsm carries more weight and a longer working life on heavy work. No fabric in this class resists flame. It is intended for factory and office uniforms, warehousing and logistics, hospitality, security, and workshops where the hazard is mechanical. Work where the hazard is fire is served by the FR class.
The normal class must never be used in place of the FR class. The FR class applies to work involving fire, electric arc or molten metal.
Flame resistant
Two routes to flame resistance
The FR class is available in two routes. The first route is 100% cotton with a chemical FR finish, twill weave, at 250 and 300gsm. It costs less and it handles like ordinary cotton. The flame resistance lies in the finish, so its protective life follows the number of washes that the finish specification guarantees. The second route uses fibre that is flame resistant in itself: an FR-modacrylic blend with lyocell and aramid at around 200gsm, and meta- and para-aramid cloth with an antistatic yarn in the range of 180 to 220gsm. On this route the flame resistance is held in the fibre, so it is not lost through washing or wear. A higher para-aramid content raises tensile strength, resistance to tearing and abrasion, and the amount of radiant heat turned back. We confirm exact weights per order.
